What an Instagram audit can honestly see

Every free Instagram analyser reads the same thing: the Open Graph profile card Instagram serves to link-preview crawlers. That card contains three numbers and a display name, and the numbers are rounded down to whole units — no decimal place, ever. We measured it: one account's card read "5M" while its real follower count was 5,193,520. Tools that render "5,000,000 followers" with full comma grouping are not more accurate than the ones showing "5M"; they have padded a truncated figure with zeros and presented the result as a measurement, roughly 194,000 followers short. If a tool shows you a follower growth chart built from this surface, the wobble in it is rounding, not growth.

Which is why the ratios matter more than the raw counts. Follower-to-following survives rounding almost intact, and it is the cheapest reliable tell for a bought or traded audience: accounts that grew by following back sit near 1:1 no matter how large they get. Posts per follower does similar work in the other direction, separating an account that earned 50,000 followers across 200 posts from one that earned them across 4,000. Neither figure needs precision to be useful, which is exactly why they are the ones to lead with.

The number brands actually buy on, engagement rate, is not on that public surface at all. Instagram stopped publishing per-post interaction data anonymously years ago, so any tool quoting an engagement rate is either paying a data provider, guessing from follower count, or logged in as you. This one pays, which is why the deeper read is a separate click and is capped — and why, when the cap is reached, it tells you so instead of quietly returning a modelled number. A fabricated engagement rate on a page people use to price sponsored work is worse than no number at all.

What this tool reads, and what no external tool can see

Because Instagram rounds them at source, and far harder than most people assume. Its public profile card publishes whole units with no decimal place: 853,412 followers is served as '853K', and anything from 5,000,000 to 5,999,999 is served as '5M'. We checked one account against exact data — its card said '5M' while the real figure was 5,193,520. Every tool reading that surface inherits the rounding, including this one, which is why the true range is printed alongside the number here rather than a fake-precise total.
