How to Make Faceless Videos with AI
Pick a niche and a format, let AI write the script, add a voice, captions and B-roll, watch it, then schedule it to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Here is each step, and what to watch for on each platform.

The short answer: 7 steps
- Pick a niche. Choose a topic you could make 30 videos about, with an audience that already watches faceless videos.
- Pick a format. Choose how the video looks: a narrated story, a Reddit post, a text chat, an explainer, a cinematic AI series and more.
- Write or generate the script. Let AI write it from live sources, or paste your own. Lead with a hook and keep one idea per video.
- Add voice and captions. Pick an AI voice or clone your own, then a caption style timed to every word.
- Add B-roll and music. Visuals and music are matched to the script; add your own clips if you have them.
- Review the video. Watch it, fix the opening line, the captions or the visuals, and approve it.
- Schedule and post. Connect your accounts and pick days and times, or download the file and upload it yourself.
On Faceless.so, steps 3 to 5 happen on their own: once you have picked your settings, the first video is ready in about two minutes. Make your first video.
Step 1: Pick a niche you can make 30 videos about
A faceless channel grows on repetition. Viewers follow it for one kind of video, and the apps learn who to show it to from your first twenty or thirty posts. So the question is less "what is popular" and more what could I post three times a week for three months without running dry.
- Proven demand. Search the topic on TikTok and YouTube Shorts. If channels with no face in them get steady views, there is an audience.
- Endless material. History, true crime, science facts, Reddit stories, mythology and motivation never run out of topics.
- A visual fit. Some topics need real footage to land (sport, cars). Others work well with AI scenes or drawings.
- Money, if that is the goal. On YouTube, finance, tech and business topics usually pay more per view than memes or gaming.
Not sure yet? The free faceless niche finder shortlists niches with real ad rates and competition. In Faceless.so you can pick one of the built-in niches or type your own.
Step 2: Pick a format
The format is the shape of the video: what is on screen and how the story is told. A narrated history story, a Reddit post read aloud, a fake text conversation and a stick figure explainer can cover the same topic and feel like four different channels. In our benchmark of TikTok posts from faceless channels, the gap in views between formats was wider than the gap between lengths, niches or posting times: the best format's median was 3.3x the lowest.
| Format | Median views | Posts | Teams |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stick & Meme Explainer | 345 | 127 | 23 |
| Story Slides | 267 | 283 | 46 |
| Narrated AI Story | 144 | 2,451 | 305 |
| Reddit Stories | 106 | 513 | 46 |
| Organ Superfoods | 103 | 96 | 25 |
| All measured posts | 163 | 4,604 | 442 |
Faceless.so has 40+ formats, in these groups:
| Group | Good for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Stories and facts3 formats | History, facts, true crime, mythology, motivation | Facts & stories, Story Slides, News Slides |
| Reddit, texts and posts7 formats | Drama, relationships, comedy, storytime | Reddit post, Fake text messages, Slideshows |
| Explainers and characters8 formats | Science, finance, health, geography, how things work | Stick & Meme Explainer, Doodle Explains, Map Explainer |
| Cinematic AI series14 formats | Entertainment channels built on one strong visual idea | Impossible ASMR, Fruit Drama, Skeleton Says |
| Music and songs3 formats | Kids channels and original-song channels | Music Video, Nursery Rhymes |
| Makeovers and montages3 formats | Transformations, builds and before-and-after reels | AI Makeover Montage, Celebrity Montage |
| Ready-made formats8 formats | Copying a reel format that already works, with a new subject each episode | Miniature clay build timelapse, Clone army battle (30s), Final question (the game show bit) |
Pick one format and keep it for your first 20 videos. Switching every week resets what your audience expects, and you never learn what worked.
Step 3: Write or generate the script
The script decides whether anyone watches past the first two seconds. There are three ways to get one:
- Let AI write it. Faceless.so researches each topic from live sources (Google Trends, Wikipedia, Google News and Reddit) and writes the script fresh for your video.
- Paste your own. Already have a script? Turn it straight into a video with script to video.
- Start from something that exists. A Reddit post, a blog article or a tweet can become the script.
Whoever writes it, a short faceless script needs four things:
- A hook in the first line. A question, a conflict or a surprise. Never "In this video I will...".
- One idea. A short that tries to teach three things teaches none.
- A payoff. End on the answer, the twist or the number the hook promised.
- The right length. At a normal speaking pace, 30 to 60 seconds is roughly 75 to 150 words. Check yours with the script timer.
Faceless.so can also put a hook title on screen for the opening seconds. If the first line is weak, try a few with the free hook generator.
Step 4: Add a voice and captions
The voice is your channel's face. Pick an AI voice that fits the niche: calm and low for history or sleep stories, quick and bright for facts, warm for motivation. Then keep the same voice on every video, so regular viewers recognise it in the first word. Faceless.so voices videos in more than 90 languages, and you can clone your own voice if you want it to sound like you.
Captions carry the video for everyone watching on mute. Use word-timed captions (each word lights up as it is spoken), pick one caption style and keep it, and keep the words clear of each app's buttons. The safe zone checker shows what TikTok, Reels and Shorts cover.
Step 5: Add B-roll and music
B-roll is every picture that plays under the voice. Faceless.so matches visuals to each line of the script, in the look of the format you picked (AI scenes, drawings, slides or footage), and adds background music under the voice.
- Each picture should show what its sentence says. Generic footage under a specific line is where viewers swipe away.
- Keep one look. The same visual style on every video makes the channel recognisable in the feed.
- Add your own clips if you have them. Gameplay, product shots or photos go in from the Studio editor, and make the channel harder to copy.
Step 6: Review before anything posts
AI gives you a finished draft, not a guaranteed good video. Watch every video before it goes out, at least until you trust the series. Check:
- The first line and the first frame: would you stop scrolling?
- Names, dates and numbers, especially in history, health and finance.
- Caption spelling, and names the voice may have mispronounced.
- That every picture matches its line, with no garbled text or odd details in AI scenes.
Fix anything in the Studio editor: script, captions, voice, music, B-roll and effects. For a series, you can have it wait for your approval on the first episodes or on every one, and approve from your phone.
Step 7: Schedule and post
Connect your accounts once: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X and LinkedIn. Pick the days and times, and each video queues up and posts itself. You can edit, skip or download any video before it goes live, or just download the file and upload it yourself.
Post on a schedule you can keep reviewing. Making a video a day is easy with AI; the part that matters is that every one passes step 6. Turning your one-off into a series means the next video is made for you, in the same niche, format, voice and style.
YouTube, TikTok and Instagram: what changes per platform
The same 9:16 vertical video works on all three, so you can post one video everywhere. A few rules differ, and they are worth knowing before you upload.
YouTube Shorts
Shorts can run up to three minutes. To earn ad revenue a channel needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in the last 90 days. When a video shows realistic AI scenes, tick YouTube's altered or synthetic content box on upload. YouTube's inauthentic content policy demonetises mass-produced, templated uploads, so original scripts and a real edit are what keep a faceless channel eligible. More in how to start a faceless YouTube channel and faceless YouTube Shorts.
TikTok
TikTok judges each video on its own, so a new account can reach people from its first post, and a weak hook shows up fast in the watch time. Label realistic AI-generated content with TikTok's AI-generated content setting; leaving it off can get a video taken down. TikTok is the easiest place to test hooks, because a new video gets a first audience within hours. More on faceless TikTok videos.
Instagram Reels
Reels can run up to three minutes. Upload a clean file: Instagram has said it shows fewer reels that carry another app's watermark. Meta may add an "AI info" label to AI-generated content, which does not stop a reel from being shown. Reels also post to Facebook, so one upload reaches both. More on faceless Instagram Reels.
Mistakes that stall faceless channels
- Changing niche or format every week. Neither you nor the app learns what works.
- Posting without watching. One video with a wrong fact or a broken caption costs more trust than ten good ones earn.
- Reusing other people's clips. It risks copyright strikes and is exactly what the inauthentic content rules target.
- Judging the niche after five videos. Give a niche and format at least 20 videos before you decide.
