YouTube Tag Generator

YouTube is unusually direct about this: tags play a minimal role in discovery. They exist so that a video about Sir Ernest Shackleton is found by the many people who type Shakleton, and so a video called The Endurance is not mistaken for a fitness clip. That is the job. A tag list that repeats the title in ten word orders does none of it, and a tag list stuffed with unrelated trending phrases is a policy violation that does nothing for you either.

A useful list has three layers. The exact topic as viewers type it, including the misspellings and alternate names. The broader categories the video sits in, so the algorithm knows which shelf it belongs on. And the format: explained, documentary, story, shorts. The generator is told to write those three layers and nothing else, in lowercase, two to five words each, and the result is trimmed so the whole line fits YouTube Studio's 500 character field without being cut off at the end.

Hashtags are a different tool with a different rule. They are visible, clickable, and capped at fifteen before YouTube ignores all of them. Three to five specific ones in the description is enough; #Shorts on a Short is the only generic tag that earns its place. Then close Studio and go fix the thumbnail, which is where the clicks actually are.
