Can ChatGPT Make Videos?
What ChatGPT can still do for a video after Sora, and two ways to get from a ChatGPT prompt to a finished, narrated video.
Updated · By Faceless
The short answer
No, not anymore. OpenAI shut down Sora, the video model inside ChatGPT, on April 26, 2026. ChatGPT can still write a video script, a prompt and still images, but it cannot make a video file. To turn that script or prompt into a finished, narrated video with captions, paste it into an AI video maker like Faceless.

What ChatGPT can and cannot do for a video
ChatGPT can
- Write a script, a hook and a title
- Plan scenes as a shot list
- Write prompts for an image or video model
- Make still images to use as frames
ChatGPT cannot
- Generate video clips
- Add a voiceover or music
- Time captions to the words
- Export an MP4 or post it anywhere
Until April 2026, Sora made short clips from a text prompt inside ChatGPT and its own app. OpenAI closed both on April 26, 2026, closed the Sora API on September 24, 2026, and has not announced a replacement. So ChatGPT is now the writer of a video, not the maker: the voice, the pictures that move with it, the captions and the file all have to come from somewhere else.
Two ways to get a finished video
Route 1
The ChatGPT Video format
The "ChatGPT video" you see on TikTok and Reels: a narrator asks ChatGPT to imagine one object at rising prices, and each answer appears as a picture in a chat window, from $1 to $100 to $10,000 to $1 Million.
In Faceless you type the object (a pizza, a watch, a dream house), pick 3 to 7 price steps, a narrator, a language and a chat theme, and it makes the whole video: the prompts, the pictures, the voice and the music. One video uses 20 credits.
Route 2
The Faceless route: from a prompt to a finished video
- Write the prompt. Ask ChatGPT for a video idea or a script, write your own, or start from one of our 50 niche prompts.
- Paste it into Faceless. A prompt goes in the box below and opens the video maker filled in. A finished ChatGPT script goes into script to video.
- Review it, then post it. Faceless writes or reads the script with an AI voice in more than 90 languages, adds a picture or clip for each line, captions and music. Fix anything in the editor, then download it or schedule it to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
A prompt can become one video or a series: the next episode is written fresh on the same topic, in the same voice and look, on the days you pick.
