The silent-video problem, explained
When Reddit ingests a video it splits the upload into a video-only file and a separate audio file, then plays them together in the app. Right-clicking the player and choosing Save video gets you one half of that pair, which is why so many saved Reddit clips play in silence.
Recombining them is a muxing job: the two streams have to be fetched, aligned and written into a single container. This tool does that with ffmpeg on the server, so what arrives on your device is one ordinary MP4 that plays anywhere.
Some posts genuinely have no audio track, particularly older GIF-style uploads converted to video. Those will download silent no matter which tool you use, because there is nothing to merge.
