Do twitter.com links still work?

Yes. X and Twitter are the same site, so x.com/user/status/... and twitter.com/user/status/... links both work, from the app or the browser. The t.co short links inside posts do not; open the post and copy its own link instead.

Can I download GIFs from X?

Yes. X stores GIFs as short silent videos, so a post with a GIF downloads as an MP4. It loops in most players but has no sound, because the GIF never had any.

What quality will the MP4 be?

The highest version X serves for that video, up to 1080p. Older videos and many phone uploads are 720p on X, and then that is the best copy that exists.

Why does a video fail to download?

Videos from protected accounts and posts marked as sensitive can only be watched while logged in, and the downloader never logs in. A few clips owned by broadcasters, often live sport, are locked to X's own player and cannot be saved. A deleted post answers with an error saying it is unavailable.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, it runs in your browser. On iPhone the MP4 lands in the Files app, in Downloads; open it there, tap Share, then Save Video to put it in Photos. On Android it goes to your Downloads folder and shows up in your gallery.

Is the X video downloader free?

Yes, with no signup and no watermark. There is a fair-use limit of 8 video downloads per hour per person, and each video must be under 15 minutes.

Can I repost a video I downloaded from X?

Only your own, or with the owner's permission. Reposting someone else's clip can be taken down for copyright. Download to keep a copy, quote it in your notes or study how it was cut; post videos you made.

X video download, step by step

Copy the link. In the X app, tap the share icon under the post and choose Copy link. On a computer, click the post's timestamp to open it and copy the address from the browser bar. Either gives you an x.com/user/status/... address.
Paste and download. Paste it into the box above and click Download video. The video and its sound are fetched together and sent back as one MP4.
Find the file. It saves to Files on iPhone, Downloads on Android, or your computer's download folder.

The post has to be public: if it opens in a logged-out browser window, its video will download here. Protected accounts and posts behind a sensitive content warning will not.

What people actually use this for

Keeping a copy. Posts get deleted and accounts get suspended, and a clip that was everywhere on Monday can be gone by Friday. Saving the MP4 is the only way to be sure you can watch it again.

The rest is creators studying a clip that spread: how fast it gets to the point, where the captions sit, how long it runs. That is easier to read frame by frame in an editor than in a feed that autoplays the next post.
