Work out what to quote a brand, priced on the views you actually deliver, with usage rights, exclusivity and whitelisting itemised so you can see what each one is worth.

What you deliver

Reels reach beyond your followers, so delivery and follower count come apart fast.

Median of your last 10 posts in this format, not your best one. This is the number the whole price is built from.

Only used if you leave average views empty. Follower count is the weakest signal here — a brand pays for delivery.

What they are asking for

These three clauses are where most creators give away money for free. Each one is a separate thing the brand is buying.

Usage rights

If the brand wants to run your content as an ad, that is a media buy, not a favour. Lives on your channels only.

Category exclusivity

You are being paid to turn down their competitors. Anything longer than 90 days should be a retainer, not an uplift.

Whitelisting / boosting

Spark Ads or Partnership Ads run through your handle, so your audience sees you as an advertiser. Standard uplift is 40%.

What to say

My rate for one Reel is $3,500. My last posts in this format have averaged around 120,000 views, so that works out at roughly $29 per thousand views delivered. That covers the post on my channels only. Usage rights, exclusivity and whitelisting are quoted separately if you need them.

These are pooled market observations from published rate cards and agency media plans, not a guarantee. Real offers land either side of this range depending on the brand's budget, how badly they want you, and who blinks first.

Why pricing per follower loses you money

The $100 per 10,000 followers rule is a survivor of the chronological feed, when reach was roughly follower count and the proxy held. It does not hold now. Reels, TikToks and Shorts distribute to strangers, so two accounts with the same 30,000 followers can deliver 8,000 views and 400,000 views. Quoting both the same fee means one of them is subsidising the other, and it is never the account with the inflated follower graph.

Brands stopped pricing on followers before creators did. The media planner running the budget already thinks in CPM, because that is the only unit that lets them compare you to a paid social buy, a podcast read and another creator. When you quote a flat fee with no view number attached, you are asking them to do the CPM sum themselves — and they will do it against your worst month, not your median. Lead with delivery and you control which number the maths starts from.

The bigger leak is rights. Most creators quote one fee and then say yes to whitelisting, six months of paid usage and category exclusivity without changing it, which can mean handing over three or four times the value they charged for. These are not goodwill gestures; they are line items with market prices, and a brand that budgeted for them is quietly relieved when you forget to ask. Itemise them, and negotiate by removing rights rather than cutting your fee — your rate card has to survive the next ten deals, not just this one.

Frequently asked questions

Pricing brand deals without guessing

Price the views you deliver, not the followers you have. A workable rule is $15-30 per thousand views for an Instagram Reel, $10-20 for TikTok, $20-35 for a YouTube integration and $50-90 for a dedicated YouTube video. Multiply your median views by that CPM, adjust for your category, then charge separately for any rights the brand wants on top.
