The three filters every niche must pass
A workable faceless niche passes all three filters at once. Two out of three is how people end up with a channel that grows but earns nothing, or earns well but has no audience:
- Demand: people already search for and binge this content. Check by finding 5+ channels in the niche with recent videos above 100k views.
- Money: advertisers pay to reach this audience, or the audience buys things. Finance, business, software, health and luxury pay multiples of memes and gaming clips.
- Repeatability: you can name 50 video ideas in 20 minutes. If you struggle at idea 15, the niche runs dry by week three.
Understand RPM before you commit
RPM is what you earn per 1,000 monetized views, and it varies by 10 to 30x across niches. At the time of writing, long-form videos in finance, business, insurance or software niches can earn $10 to $30+ RPM, while entertainment and meme content often sits under $2. Shorts pay far less per view everywhere, usually cents per 1,000 views, so shorts-only channels win on volume and funnel value, not ad revenue.
The same 1M views can be worth $300 or $20,000 depending on the niche. Pick with the end in mind.
Niches that work faceless
Some niches need a face on camera to build trust. These do not, and they are proven with faceless formats:
- Scary stories, true crime and mystery narration
- History, geography and 'what if' explainers
- Finance and money psychology explainers
- Motivation and stoicism with cinematic visuals
- Reddit stories and AITA-style narration
- Top 10 lists, comparisons and rankings
- Sports, tech or business breakdowns
- Health, fitness and habit science summaries
Validate with a 30-minute competitor audit
Before committing, prove the demand is real and reachable:
- 1Find 10 channels in the niche. At least 5 should be faceless.
- 2Sort each channel's videos by popular. Note which topics repeat across channels: those are the proven formats.
- 3Check at least 2 channels that are under a year old with videos above 100k views. New channels breaking through means the algorithm still has room for entrants.
- 4Write down the 3 formats you would copy first. Copying a proven format with better execution is the strategy, not a shortcut.
Pick one niche, not three
The algorithm on every platform builds a profile of who your content is for. A channel that posts finance on Monday and scary stories on Wednesday confuses that profile and gets shown to nobody. One channel, one niche, one format. When you want a second niche, that is a second channel (chapter 10).
