The first 3 seconds decide everything
On shorts platforms, viewers decide to stay or swipe within 1 to 3 seconds. The hook is not an intro, it is the reason to stay. Never open with a greeting, a logo, or context. Open mid-tension.
- Curiosity gap: 'This man survived two nuclear bombs, and that is not the strange part.'
- Stakes first: 'One email deleted this company's $4 billion.'
- Contrarian claim: 'Everything you know about saving money is backwards.'
- Visual pattern break: an image or motion that does not match what the feed usually shows
Structure for retention, not for completeness
After the hook, the enemy is the swipe. Structure every script as a chain of open loops: each beat answers the last question and raises the next one. Cut every sentence that does not either advance the story or set up a payoff. A 45 second video that holds 80% of viewers beats a 3 minute video that holds 20%.
Write the last line first. If the payoff is weak, no amount of hook fixes the video.
Script rules that survive daily volume
- Write for the ear, not the eye: short sentences, no subclauses, read it aloud once
- One idea per video. Two ideas is two videos
- Concrete beats abstract: '$4,200 a month' beats 'a lot of money'
- End with either a payoff punchline or a question that drives comments
- Keep a running list of every idea. The engine eats topics fast
Batch production or die
Producing one video a day, every day, from scratch is how motivation dies. Batch instead: one session for topic research, one for scripts, one for generation and review. A weekly two-hour batch that produces 7 videos beats daily heroics, and it creates a buffer so a busy week does not break the posting streak.
- 1Monday: pick 7 topics from the idea list
- 2Write or generate all 7 scripts in one sitting
- 3Generate, review and schedule all 7 videos
- 4Spend the saved time on chapter 7: reading analytics
Quality bar: good enough, shipped daily
Perfectionism is the polite name for procrastination. The retention graph, not your taste, decides what good looks like, and you cannot read a retention graph on a video you never posted. Ship at 80%, learn from data, and let the format improve weekly instead of polishing one video monthly.
Key moves
0/6Reading is warm-up. Check these off as you actually ship them.
The engine, fully automated
Faceless.so is this chapter as a product: it writes the script, voices it, edits the video and posts it on schedule. You pick the niche and review the output.
