One video, every platform

You already paid the cost of making the video. Posting it on one platform and not the other two is leaving two-thirds of the distribution on the table. The catch is that each platform punishes lazy reposting, so cross-posting has rules.

01

Never post a watermarked video

TikTok's logo on an Instagram reel, or vice versa, measurably suppresses reach: platforms deprioritize content advertising a competitor. Always export and upload the clean master file to each platform natively. Never use the 'share to' button between platforms.

02

Same video, native details

The video file can be identical; the wrapper should be native to each platform:

  • YouTube Shorts: title matters for search. Write a real title, add #Shorts, use your upload defaults.
  • TikTok: caption is a second hook plus 3 to 5 niche hashtags. Trending sounds layered quietly can help distribution.
  • Instagram Reels: similar caption strategy, and Reels from accounts that also post stories get more surface area.
03

Treat each platform as its own experiment

The same video can flop on TikTok and break out on Shorts. Do not conclude anything about a video from one platform's result, and do not conclude anything about a platform from one video. After 30 days you will see where your niche and format land best; weight your effort there, but keep publishing to all three since the marginal cost is near zero.

Each platform is a free lottery ticket on content you already made. Buy all the tickets.

04

Schedule it or it will not happen

Manually uploading three times per day across platforms is exactly the kind of friction that breaks streaks. Use scheduling: batch the uploads with the weekly production session, set the times, and let it run.
